Carlingford Olympic Triathlon

Kevin Duggan competed in the Carlingford Olympic Triathlon 2019 on the 11th August. The course consisted of a 1500m swim in Carlingford Lough, a 40km bike through Cooley Mountains and a flat 10km run along the coast. Kevin finished in a fantastic time of 2:15:01 coming 41st in a field of 144 other competitors. Congratulations Kevin!

Coleraine Edwin May 5 Mile Classic

Termoneeny Running Club were well represented at Wednesday evening’s Coleraine Edwin May 5 Mile Classic 2019. The course was a lovely route around the town with no major hills to negotiate, with our runners turning in some solid performances in warm conditions, with plenty of pbs achieved on the night. Our first male home was Mark Baxter in a fast time and PB of 34:01 followed closely by our first lady home, Michelle Comer in an impressive 38:56 which was also a PB! Thanks to Coleraine Leisure Centre and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for the outstanding hospitality. Full results are as follows: Mark Baxter 34:01 PB, Michelle Comer 38:56 PB, Tara Montgomery 39:56 PB, Norman Gibson 41:40, Kerry Evans 42:23, Andrea Convery 42:19, Catherine Paul 45:04, Sinead McGrogan 45:52 PB, Lindsay Gibson 45:54, Geraldine McGuckin 51:51, Ann McGarvey 55:09, Anne Breen 55:09, Jacqueline McGonigle 59:03. We are delighted to see Kerry back racing after over 8 weeks of injury impeding her training – well done Kerry!

Clogher 10k/5k
Also taking place on Wednesday evening was the Clogher 10k and 5k. Three members bravely took on the notorious hills of Clogher to compete in both distances. Olivia McKenna ran the 5k and Andy Campbell and Sabrena McLaughlin ran the 10k – well done everyone! Results :  10k – Andy Campbell 1:22:55, Sabrena McLaughlin 1:22:55, 5k – Olivia McKenna 28:22. Great results everyone!

Connswater 5 Mile Challenge
Andy and Sabrena were on the road again on Friday evening, this time to Belfast to take part in the Connswater 5 Mile Challenge. This is a brand new race on the calendar. As part of the Baker McKenzie Super Fives race series, this race took runners along part of the magnificent Connswater Greenway and into beautiful Victoria Park before finishing back at CS Lewis Square. Results: Sabrena McLaughlin 01:00:00, Andy Campbell 01:00:00.

Ballinderry Road Race

There was a good turnout of TRC Runners at the Ballinderry Road Race, Shamrock Park, with lots of them sporting their new O’Neill’s Sportswear running vests! Our runners competed in both the 5M and 5K races. In the 5K our first female home was Olivia McKenna in just 27:29 and first male home was Andy Campbell in 28:40. In the 5 Mile race our first male home, and 5th overall was Thomas Doherty. Great running from everyone taking part. Full results are as follows: 5K – Olivia McKenna 27:29, Sinead McGrogan 28:38, Andy Campbell 28:40, Tracy Shanahan 31:36, Sabrena McLaughlin 35:52, Nicola Clements 40:13. 5M – Thomas Doherty 31:43, (5th), Michael Burke 34:48, Damien O’Boyle 38:36, Gerard Henry 42:51, Francis Halferty 46:56, Ann Johnston 55:09, Tom Halferty 55:42.

Antrim Parkrun

Our Antrim Parkrunners on Saturday were Anne Breen and Ann McGarvey who are no strangers to the Antrim venue. Ann McGarvey finished in 32:07 and Anne Breen finished in 33:05. Well done ladies, consistent performances as always!
Gorey Park Parkrun
Parkrun Tourism was brought to you this week by Michelle Comer who ran Gorey Park Parkrun which is 5 laps in Ramsfort Woods, County Wexford on Saturday morning (despite being on holiday!). Fair play Michelle, that’s dedication. Michelle was third lady home, 14th overall and 1st in her age category, in a fantastic time of 24:04!

Hillsborough Castle and Gardens Festival of Running

On Sunday morning two of our members took part in the 5K and two took part in the half marathon at the inaugural Hillsborough Festival of Running on Sunday morning. The races started and finished within the grounds of the beautiful Hillsborough Castle and Gardens before heading out onto the surrounding rural roads of Hillsborough and taking in historic attractions in the local area such as Hillsborough Fort and Hillsborough Lake, and finishing with a lap of the Gardens before crossing the finish line in the event village. Congratulations to Andy Campbell and Tracy Shanahan who completed the 5K in 31:19 and 31:34 respectively. We are absolutely delighted for Sinead McGrogan and Pauline McWilliams who completed their very first Half Marathon at this event. By all accounts this was a testing course with plenty of rolling hills. Sinead finished in 2:32:34 with Pauline finishing in 3:02:14. Super running everyone!

Triple A 5K/2K Fun Run/ Walk, Armagh

Congratulations to Nicola Clements, Andy Campbell and Tracy Shanahan who ran the 5K on Sunday at the Triple A 5k/2k Run/walk at Palace Demesne Armagh for Autism Action Armagh. Nicola’s family also joined in the fun by running the 2K – well done to everyone for taking part, and for such a great cause, and to Andy and Tracy for completing their second 5K race of the day!

Irish Masters Track and Field Championships

Tommy Hughes delivered exceptional performances on Sunday at the Irish Masters Track and Field Championships in Tullamore, County Offaly. Tommy came away with no less than a gold medal in the 5000 meters and a new track record for over 55 of 16 mins 39 secs AND a silver in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4 mins 41 secs! Huge Congratulations Tommy, you continue to both impress and inspire everyone who knows you.
