Sunday saw a large field of runners come to say goodbye to one of the special running events in many years. The Dune Half Marathon 2019 held the last running of the event that saw close to 500 runners from all over Ireland and further afield  come run it for the last time , taking off from the Quays in Newry towards Dundalk on what was a great day weather wise and had the runners in high spirits and a great festival mood. The Dune had  something magical about it as an event  and the hard work and dedication over the years from our fellow SGR members and founders of Dune, Dermot Winters and Barry Duffy and the team of people who helped out, have given so many great memories for everyone involved with the race. We thank them all for giving us an event to us that will now leave a void in the running calendar for many. Our SGR members were out in force once again as both runners , helpers and pace runners on the day as well as supporting the event over the many years. SGR Joe Mc Kevitt came away with another podium finish  in 2nd place for the club  after finishing in 1st place in Killeavy last weekend, the strong SGR team all came to celebrate and give their all for the last Dune and all had amazing times and great memories to treasure with a medal that is a real time keeper in so many ways. SGR Lawrence Malone took to another Parkrun on Saturday ,after taking part in a London Parkrun Lawrence supported the Castlewellan Parkrun in Castlewellan Forest Park.

Lawrence is setting great times at the runs over the past few months and building up to breaking a PB soon at this rate. Lawrence time was  00:21.43 .  Inspiring running  that i’m sure will see fellow SGR take on a Parkrun to the many in our area.

SGR Malachy Rafferty took to Crumlin on Sunday to run at the Run Annon Lough View 10k ,sadly at going to press we have no timing of the event and will have it in next weeks report, but well done Malachy for supporting and running and representing the club at this great event. Well done Malachy.

Good luck to SGR Tina Crawley and David Rushe on Sunday 13th October as they take on the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This will be Tina’s 4th Major Marathon and David will be doing the  Chicago Marathon for the second time after doing it last year. We all at the club wish them all the best on Sunday.
