AES Larne Half Marathon 2018:
The 26th annual Larne Half Marathon, an event promoted by Larne Athletic Club and sponsored by AES, will take place on Saturday 24th March 2018 (11am).
In 2017, a record breaking field of nearly 2,000 runners took on the stunning Antrim Coast Road course, with Mark McKinstry (North Belfast Harriers) and Laura Graham (Mourne Runners) taking top honours in 1:11:32 and 1:16:59 respectively.
The event is expected to reach it’s 2,000 capacity again in 2018, in the year when Larne Athletic Club will be celebrating their 30th anniversary; a commemorative finishers medal will be designed in celebration of this.
Entries for the 2018 event will open later today, FRIDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 2017 at 7PM – you can enter via the official race website at www.larnehalfmarathon.webs.com
Race Director, Billy Thompson spoke with enthusiasm ahead of entries going live tonight: “It’s been an honour to be part of the Larne Half Marathon since it’s very first days, and now as race director, I am excited to welcome what should be a record breaking crowd to the event, in a year when our club will celebrate its 30th anniversary. I firmly believe that our event showcases all that is good about local sport and also the town of Larne.”
Billy, a well-known runner himself, encouraged potential participants to enter early. “In the last few years, the race has reached capacity very quickly – I would therefore encourage those wishing to run the event in 2018 to enter as early as possible!”
There will be official pacers for those competitors hoping to break 1:30hrs, 1:45hrs and 2:00hrs. The associated 13.1 mile Walk will also return, starting at 10am. Full details of the event can be found at www.larnehalfmarathon.webs.com
