Runher Coastal 10k & 5k:
On Friday 26th May 2017, close to one thousand ladies took on the annual Runher Coastal 10k and 5k races on the County Down shoreline, an event hosted by local running shop Pure Running.
On a warm and humid evening, the 10k athletes started at Seapark close to Holywood and followed the coastal path, past Rockport (where the 5k started) and onwards to the atmospheric finish at Crawfordsburn Country Park near Bangor.
Willowfield Harriers’ Amy Bulman showed no signs of fatigue from her impressive podium finish at the Buncrana 5k earlier this week as she cruised to victory. The Northern Ireland international led the field home in 36:22 (1st place). Reigning Champion Judith Lonnen (City of Lisburn AC) was also in good form, taking a well deserved 2nd place in 39:42, before Julie Balmer (North Down AC) saw off a strong challenge from Leann Gibson (Victoria Park & Connswater AC) to claim 3rd place in 42:43 – Leann followed in 42:45 (4th place). Fiona McQuillan (Unattached) completed the top five finishers in 43:14 (5th place).
In the 5k race, North Down AC’s Sarah Lindsay secured top honours, covering the scenic route in 20:09 (1st place). Lagan Valley AC’s Jenny Finlay crossed the line in 20:34 for 2nd place, before Hollie Massey (North Down AC) produced arguably the performance of the night – the 12 year old showed her potential with a 22:25 clocking for 3rd place. Rachel McManus (Club Unknown) ran 23:07 for 4th place, while Pamela Phillips (Club Unknown) recorded 23:44 for 5th place.
