Amy Foster impresses on Day 1 of European Team Championships!

European Team Championships (Day 1):

On Friday 23rd June 2017, three local athletes were amongst the Ireland team who were in action on Day 1 of the European Athletics Team Championships in Vaasa, Finland.  The event will span across the weekend, from today (Friday 23rd June 2017) until Sunday 25th June 2017.

Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC), Christine McMahon (Ballymena & Antrim AC) and Ben Reynolds (North Down AC) all featured, but it was Northern Ireland 100m and 200m record holder Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC) who impressed most.  Amy recorded 11.59 in her 100m heats to advance to next round.  Interestingly, this was just 0.19 slower than Amy’s record of 11.40, which was set in 2014.

Christine McMahon was in competition in the 400m hurdles and missed qualification by less than one second when taking 9th place in 1:00.51.  Unfortunately, Ben Reynolds was disqualified from his 110m hurdles race.

The action continues tomorrow (Saturday 24th June 2017), with Northern Ireland’ s Kerry O’Flaherty, the ladies team captain, Emma Mitchell (QUB AC), Ann-Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC), Andrew Mellon (Crusaders AC) and Christian Robinson (QUB AC) all still to open their Championship.  In the field, NI’s Adam McMullen (Crusaders AC) will compete in the Long Jump.
