An Audience with Dame Mary Peters

The Lifelong Learning team are delighted to invite you to an evening with Dame Mary Peters, facilitated by Peter Weil.

We celebrate the remarkable work of the Mary Peters Trust which encourages our young people to realise their sporting dreams.  Mary will talk about her role in putting sport firmly on the educational map.

Mary will also talk about her background, her training as a teacher and her experience of the classroom as well as revealing who motivated, encouraged and coached her at the start of her career.

In the 1972 Summer Olympics Dame Mary Peters won the gold medal in the women’s pentathlon. She represented Northern Ireland at every Commonwealth Games between 1958 and 1974 and won 2 gold medals for the pentathlon, plus a gold and silver medal for the shot put.

No one in Northern Ireland has made a greater contribution to ensure that our young people have access to top facilities, leading experts and the necessary financial support.
We will also discuss Dame Mary Peters’ support for young people with disabilities who are determined to excel in their chosen sport.

join us. Mary will also talk about her background, her training as a teacher and her experience of the classroom as well as revealing who motivated, encouraged and coached her at the start of her career.
