Andrew Annett and Ann-Marie McGlynn crowned NI & Ulster Champions at Waterside HM!

Waterside Half Marathon 2018:

Andrew Annett (North Belfast Harriers) and Ann-Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC) were crowned Northern Ireland & Ulster Champions at today’s Waterside Half Marathon in Derry / Londonderry (Sunday 2nd September 2018).

Kenyan star Freddy Sittuk (Raheny Shamrock AC) was the overall winner of what was a closely contested men’s event, which for the best part, was led by a group of three including Freddy, the aforementioned Andrew Annett and current NI & Ulster 10k and 10,000m Champion Scott Rankin (Foyle Valley AC).

However, in the end, it was Freddy who broke the tape first, clocking 1:10:05 (1st place) to complete a hat-trick of wins at the event.  Andrew crossed the line a mere one second later in 1:10:06 (2nd place); this was enough to secure the NI & Ulster gold for the North Belfast Harriers man.

Scott added to his growing cabinet of local medals when he recorded 1:10:13 for 3rd place.  City of Derry AC’s Kyle Doherty claimed 4th place and NI & Ulster bronze with 1:10:26.

Ann-Marie McGlynn was a class act in the ladies race.  The Northern Ireland and Ireland international raced clear for a gun to tape victory in 1:17:02 (1st place); Ann-Marie picked up the NI & Ulster gold medal.

Springwell RC’s Ciara Toner continued her recent good form with a 1:22:09 finish for 2nd place, while Gemma McDonald (Ballycastle Runners) completed the podium in 1:29:20 (3rd place).
