VHI Women’s Mini Marathon 10k 2017:
On Monday 5th June 2017, Northern Ireland’s Ann-Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC) led a field of 33,000 participants home at the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon 10k in Dublin (Ireland).
The Northern Ireland and Ireland international, who recorded a 10,000m personal best of 33:16 at the recent Highgate Harriers ‘Night of 10,000m Personal Bests’, broke the tape in a brilliant 33:55 for 1st place.
According to highly respected Irish journalist Lindie Naughton (www.lindienaughton.com), Strabane based Ann-Marie forced the pace from the start, with only Irish international Laura Shaughnessy attempting to stay with her. Laura managed to hold on until approximately 4k, then Ann-Marie began to pull away, eventually extending her lead to secure victory.
After the event, Ann-Marie told www.nirunning.co.uk: “I’m delighted with my performance today as one of my main aims this year was to win the mini-marathon. I’m absolutely over the moon.”
Ann-Marie will now turn her attention to the track, with 5,000m being her main target distance.
