Another Busy Weekend for County Antrim Harriers

On Saturday (28 September) eleven County Antrim Harriers took to the trails of the beautiful North Coast for the gruelling 26Extreme Causeway Coast events.  The Club was represented in the Ultra, Half and 10k distances, and despite glorious sunshine, recent rain had made the ground muddy underfoot, but this wasn’t a problem for any of the hardy Harriers.

Andrena Berry, Lyn Hardie, Sarah Kinnear, and David Hamill took on the Ultra event, from Portstewart to Ballintoy and back to the finish in Portballintrae.  All covered the covered the 40 miles in the impressive times – special mention to Andrea who achieved a well-deserved podium place.  Five Harriers, completed the half marathon distance from Portballintrae and back via the Giants Causeway, well done to Claire Oliphant, Peter Graham, Patrick McLain, Patricia Hamill and Rachel Lloyd. While in the 10k event, Sean Pagel and Stephanie Watson gave gutsy performances. The Harriers were supported and cheered around the course by fellow Club members. Well done everyone on another successful race day.

Elsewhere, Marion Morrow and Kim Gleave were in action at the Annaghmore Running Festival.  The course had more than its fair share on inclines, but the duo took them all in their stride and enjoyed their day out.

Then on Sunday, eleven members took part in the Albertville 5k, organised by Albertville Harriers, to celebrate their 100th year as a running club.  The flat two lap course was within the Duncrue area, starting and finishing close to the Portside Inn. Everyone performed well, but special mention to Shelley White who had just returned to racing after injury and achieved a PB; as well as Natasha Hewitt and Marian Hayes who came third in their respective age categories. Many thanks to Albertville Harriers for a great event. The commemorative medal and post-race soup was greatly appreciated by all.

While Erin Montgomery proved how dedicated he is to running 13.1 miles, by being the Clubs’ sole representative at the Monaghan Half Marathon – the tenth and final event in the Pure Running Half Marathon Series.
