Athletes turn out to support Lough Neagh Rescue in Antrim!

Lough Neagh Rescue 5 mile & 10k Races 2018:

Willowfield Harriers pair Russell Hughes and Duncan Bell shared the spoils and Patricia Hamill (County Antrim Harriers) won the feature 5 mile race at the 2nd annual Lough Neagh Rescue 5 mile race in Antrim (Saturday 2nd June 2018).

The event, which took place on the picturesque Lough Shore, close to Antrim Forum, also included a new 10k option.  All proceeds from the race went to the worthy Lough Neagh Rescue.

In hot and humid conditions, a record number of close to 150 athletes entered the events, which covered a multi-terrain course.

In the headline 5 mile race, friends and club mates Russell Hughes and Duncan Bell could not be separated as the claimed joint 1st place in 28:18.  In-form Mallusk Harriers athlete Mark Smith continued his good run of podium places, securing 3rd place in 28:26.

In the closely contested ladies race, the fast finishing Patricia Hamill clocked 40:17 for 1st place, with Acorns AC athletes Tracey Quinn and Jacqueline Glendinning taking 2nd place and 3rd place respectively.  Tracey crossed the line in 40:31, with Jacqueline following in 40:58.

In the 10k race, Ricky McKnight of PACE Running Club led the way in 38:32 (1st place), just over 20 seconds ahead of Steven Stewart, who dipped well under the 40 minute mark with a 38:59 finish for 2nd place. Daniel Pearson (Acorns AC) completed the top three 41:14 (3rd place).

Always impressive PACE Running Club athlete Claire Forth won the ladies 10k comfortably, breaking the tape in 47:02 (1st place).  Club mate Nuala McKay (PACE Running Club) picked up the runners up prize with a 52:58 finish for 2nd place, while Danielle McConville (Team Runwell) completed the top three in 57:27 (3rd place).
