Twenty-six of the Commonwealth Nations have expressed interest in bringing teams to Cardiff. Athletics Northern is pleased to have selected athletes that will be competitive in both the men’s and women’s races.

Paul Pollock will line up after representing Ireland in the marathon at the European Championships this year. Paul will be joined by Andrew Annett, who won the Northern Ireland & Ulster Half Marathon Championships last weekend, along with Eoghan Totten, who ran 66:14 in Barcelona this year and Conor Bradley who ran 51:48 for 10 miles last month. Ann Marie McGlynn, who won the Northern Ireland & Ulster Half Marathon Championships on Sunday, will be the sole female representative.

Director of Coaching and Athlete Development, Jackie Newton, said “We are very much looking forward to this inaugural Commonwealth Half Marathon Championships that are being held on a super-fast course in conjunction with the Cardiff Half Marathon. It’s a great opportunity for our athletes to race in Wales, where conditions and the environment will be familiar to them and to compete with the Commonwealth’s best teams. This team is a mix of those who have experience at major championships and others who have that to come. This competition will give them the opportunity to learn from their counter-parts with regard to the performance behaviours and competition processes that are required for success at the highest level.”
