Belfast International 2018:

Northern Ireland’s Commonwealth Games medallist Leon Reid (Birchfield Harriers) will headline a strong field of international talent at the annual Belfast International Track & Field Meeting on meeting on Tuesday 26th June 2018.

Hosts, Athletics Northern Ireland, launched the event at a special press gathering on Tuesday 15th May 2018.  Top local athletes were joined by officials from Athletics NI and Dame Mary Peters.

Bath-based sprinter Leon will be hoping to use the Belfast event as part of his build-up towards the European Championships.

Ciara Mageean (UCD AC), Sommer Lecky (Finn Valley AC), Ben Reynolds (North Down AC) and Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC) are expected to be among other members of Northern Ireland’s Commonwealth Games team in action at the event, with local hurdlers Megan Marrs (City of Lisburn AC) and Mollie Courtney (Cheltenham AC) also expected to compete.

Speaking to BBC Sport NI at the Belfast International, Leon said, “I definitely see the Belfast International as a stepping stone on to the Europeans that I am aiming for this summer,” added the Gold Coast bronze medallist.

“I’ve won at the meet two years in a row and the Mary Peters Track is one of the fastest tracks I’ve ever run on.

“This is a massive, massive meet for us athletes in Northern Ireland and I can’t wait for the 26th of June.”

More details of the star-studded line-up for the event will be released in the coming weeks.  Any local athletes wishing to submit an expression of interest to compete should click HERE.
