Ballydrain Harriers Weekly Update

Saturday 5th September saw the latest race in the expanded Forestside Shopping Centre sponsored ‘ChampionChip Ireland Running Series’ take place at Down Royal Racecourse. An impressive 207 entrants took on the 5k race around the famous racecourse.

First over the line was Aaron Woodman in a time of 15:31. Peter Donnelly was in 2nd place in a time of 15:42, closely followed by Darragh Crossan in 15:43. Ballydrain’s sole representative on the day was Matthew Carville who crossed the line in an adjusted time of 16:23, giving him a PB of some 35 seconds.

The 10k event was won by Steven McAlary in 31:50. The 10 mile race was won by Tommy Hughes in a time of 54:40. The series moves on to Shanes Castle on 26th September and will see runners take on 5k, 10k, half and full marathon distances.

On Sunday 6th September husband and wife Ballydrain members Brian and Kirsty Bogle took part in the National Aquathon Championships in Kilrea which consists of a 1km lake swim followed by a 5k run. Of the 117 hardy souls who took the plunge Kieran Jackson crossed the line first in a time of 29:43.

Ballydrain’s Brian grabbed household bragging rights in a time of 43:50 just a few minutes ahead of Kirsty in an impressive 49:17!
