Belfast City Marathon 2019: Experiment 26.2 Group!

Choose Belfast for your first marathon and be part of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon Experiment 26.2 Group:

Have you always wanted to run a Marathon, but felt you didn’t know where to start?

Well now is your opportunity – after its success last year, the organisers at the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon are setting up a new “Experiment 26.2” Group to help, support and watch 20 people cross the finish line on Sunday 5th May 2019 for their first marathon.

Perhaps you enjoyed running a “leg” of the Team Relay event in May and have caught the running bug and a thirst for more?  You may have just started your running journey in 2019 and a marathon is on your wish list.  Or you might have been one of many watching the recent New York City Marathon in awe thinking, “I would love to do that”.

YOU could be joining thousands on 5th May 2019 as the 38th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon makes history, taking place on a Sunday for the first time ever.  The largest single participatory sporting event in Northern Ireland is gearing up for a massive year of change with a brand new, flatter and faster route for marathon participants and a new start location on the grounds of the iconic Stormont Estate.

If you are lucky to be selected for this year’s Experiment 26.2 Group, you can expect a very comprehensive marathon training package from the event’s Official Partners.

The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon is delighted to reveal that Stuart Kennedy will be the event’s Official Marathon Coach in 2019.  Stuart from Belfast is a qualified endurance coach through UK Athletics and has 40 years running experience and 20 years coaching experience.  Furthermore, at the age of 15 years, he ran the 1983 Dublin City Marathon in 2 hours 52 minutes and he is currently in the Top 40 (in the world) for athletes that have the longest length of time between their first sub 3 hour marathon to their most recent sub 3 hour marathon.

Stuart said:

“I have a long relationship with the Belfast City Marathon.  I can remember watching my father stride down Boucher Road during the first Belfast City Marathon in 1982.   I also had the pleasure of pacing sub 3 hour 30 minute runners during the event a few years ago.  I am delighted to be the Official Marathon Coach for the 2019 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon and look forward to coaching individuals and groups of runners to reach their goals for the 2019.”

As an Experiment 26.2 Group member, you will receive a free marathon training plan from Stuart and a full schedule of training activities inclusive of some free races.  Framar Health, the events Official Nutrition Partner will be providing expert nutrition advice.  Athletics NI will be offering a 12 month membership to each candidate.  To add to this, the group will receive a 3 month citywide Health and Fitness membership with Better, the Official Gym Partner for the 2019 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon.  Better will also provide bespoke core and strength classes to support the group’s training.

The group will also enjoy an introductory goodie bag with products from Deep RiverRock, Framar Health, Tayto, Spar, White’s Oats, Linwoods and more.

The Experiment 26.2 Group will meet monthly between January – April 2019 and this will include group long runs/training sessions on evenings and weekends across each month.  These will provide motivation and support for individuals who wish to be part of a team, achieve their goal or reach their best time.

If you have never ran a marathon before and feel you could commit your time to this exclusive opportunity, you can find out more about the Experiment 26.2 Group and the essential criteria required at www.belfastcitymarathon.com/get-training or email [email protected]
