Ben Branagh and Jessica Craig take top honours at Ballynahinch 10k!

Ballynahinch Lions 10k:

On Saturday 21st April 2018, nearly 150 athletes took on the annual Ballynahinch Lions 10k in County Down.

The revised course, changed two years ago, is much faster than the old route, and takes in a section of the stunning Montalto Estate.

St Malachy’s AC athlete Ben Branagh continued his return to action with a strong performance.  Ben led from early on and took the field through 5k in 15:55, well clear of talented pairing Conan McCaughey (Derry Track Club) and Stephen O’Gorman (Dromore AC), who followed in 16:17 and 16:41 respectively.

In the ladies race, Jessica Craig (North Down AC) reached half way in 18:12, just over thirty seconds ahead of in-form Karen Wilton (Jog Lisburn RC).  Karen (18:49) was well clear of Laura Bickerstaff (Dromore AC), who reached 5k in 19:31.

In the second half of the race, nothing changed in terms of positions at the head of the pack, with Ben and Jessica further cementing their places at the front.

Ben broke the tape in 32:26 (1st place), nearly one minute ahead of Conan, who crossed the line in 33:11 for 2nd place.  Stephen completed the top three in 34:08 (3rd place).

Jessica also finished with almost a minute to spare on her closest rival, taking the win in 37:39 (1st place).  Karen took the runners up prize in 38:34 (2nd place), with Laura running 39:58 for 3rd place.
