Brian McCluskey and Laura Graham retain DUNE Half Marathon titles!

DUNE Half Marathon (Round 1 – Pure Running HM Series 2018):

Brian McCluskey (North East Runners) and Laura Graham (Mourne Runners) retained their DUNE Half Marathon titles as nearly eight hundred athletes took on the first race of the Pure Running Half Marathon Series 2018 (Sunday 11th February 2018).

The cross-border event, saw athletes brave wintry conditions and a tough course as they made their way from The Quays Shopping Centre in Newry (Northern Ireland) to the finish in Market Square in Dundalk (Ireland).

Reigning Champion Brian had Matthew Hewitt (East Coast AC) and Aaron Woodman (PACE Running Club) on his tail early on, but the established distance runner gradually moved clear and increased his lead. Brian crossed the line in 1:14:56 (1st place) to retain his title, with Matthew following in 1:15:33 for a well-deserved 2nd place.  Aaron finished strongly, covering the 13.1 mile course in 1:15:40 (3rd place), completing the top three men.

Despite the blustery and at times slippery conditions, AAI National Marathon Champion Laura bettered her 2017 winning time (1:18:25) by seven seconds as she secured victory in 1:18:18 (1st place).  Laura McDonnell (Unattached) crossed the line in 1:26:58 (2nd place) for the runners up spot, with City of Lisburn AC’s Ann Terek taking 3rd place in 1:28:42.
