Chris McGuinness and Rachel Gibson secure top honours at St Patrick’s Day 5k!

City of Derry AC host Paula’s St Patrick’s Day 5k:

Foyle Valley AC athlete Chris McGuinness and North Down AC’s Rachel Gibson led the way as hundreds of athletes turned out for the St Patrick’s Day 5k road race in Derry/Londonderry; the event, which is in aid of the Foyle Hospice, is also known as Paula’s Run 5k.

Chased by a plethora of Spartan talent, Northern Ireland international Chris broke the tape in 15:44 for 1st place.  Conor Bradley was the first of a City of Derry AC quartet to follow, claiming the runners up prize in 15:53 (2nd place), while his in-form club mate Noel Logan secured 3rd place in 16:13.

Rachel recorded 17:33 (1st place) to take the ladies title ahead of current NI & Ulster 10,000m Champion Marina Murphy (Derry Track Club), who also ran well to cross the line in 18:23 (2nd place).  Springwell Running Club’s Kerrie McIlmoyle completed the podium in 19:38 (3rd place).

Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games star Danny Mooney (Letterkenny AC) won the St Patrick’s Day 5k in Letterkenny, County Donegal (Ireland).

Danny broke the tape in 16:31 (1st place).  His club mate Monica McGranaghan (Letterkenny AC) topped the ladies podium in 21:30 (1st place).
