Newcastle AC’s David O’Flaherty secure victory at Crossgar 10k and Rostrevor 5k:
On Saturday 29th July 2017, Newcastle AC’s David O’Flaherty secured victory at two events, the Crossgar 10k and the Rostrevor 5k.
At the Crossgar 10k, David led the field home in 35:05, winning relatively comfortably. Brian Kinsella (Unattached) claimed 2nd place in 35:33, with James Savage (East Down AC) taking 3rd place in 37:05.
In the ladies race, Willowfield Harriers’ Amy Bulman won in 37:44 (1st place), almost two minutes clear of her closest rival. Catherine O’Connor (East Down AC) secured the runners up prize in 39:29 (2nd place), before Martsje Hell (North Belfast Harriers) crossed the line in 40:22 for 3rd place. At the Rostrevor 5k, David was made to work for the top prize, with William McKee (Mourne Runners) and Seamus Lynch (Newcastle AC) chasing all the way. In the end, David won with a twenty one second margin in 15:45 (1st place). William clocked 16:06 for 2nd place, while Seamus, who was returning to action after recently getting married, claimed 3rd place in 16:23.
Rio Olympian Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle AC) replicated her brother’s finishing position when taking the ladies title in 17:49 (1st place). Aoife McGreevy (Lagan Valley AC) followed in 19:19 (2nd place), while Moire O’Sullivan (Unattached) completed the top three in 19:31 (3rd place). Full results for the event are available HERE.
North Belfast Harriers host successful Afternoon of 5,000m Personal Bests:
On the same day (Saturday 29th July 2017), Belfast club North Belfast Harriers, hosted their annual Afternoon of 5,000m Personal Bests at the Boys Model School.
The host club’s Conor Curran (North Belfast Harriers) was by far the fastest athlete of the day, clocking 16:12 for victory in the feature race of the day. In all, 15 athletes came away with new 5,000m personal bests. Full results for the event are available HERE.
