#DreamRunDublin18 team take their first competitive step towards Dublin Marathon 2018!

#DreamRunDublin18 team compete at Lisburn 10k:

Nine of the ten #DreamRunDublin18 team, who are all coached by Olympian Paul Pollock, were in action at the Lisburn 10k road race (Wednesday 20th June 2018) as they continue their training towards the Dublin Marathon in October (2018).

Five of the group recorded new personal best for the distance, with in-form Wesley McDowell (Dromore AC) lead the way, taking 6th place in 35:07.  Adam Ferguson (North Down AC) followed in 35:51 (9th place), with Conor Hogarth (Unattached) crossing the line just eight seconds later in 35:59 (12th place).

Peter Thompson (BARF) impressed with a 36:08 finish for 14th place.  Michael Broadhead (Orangegrove AC) followed exactly one minute later in 37:08 (24th place), while Eamonn O’Reilly (North Down AC), Peter Morrison (Unattached) and Philip McBride (Unattached) all finished within nineteen seconds of each other.  Eamonn clocked 38:16 (32nd place), with Peter and Philip running 38:20 (33rd place) and 38:35 (36th place) respectively.  Liosa McKeown (Unattached) narrowly missed a sub-40 finish when she crossed the line in 40:13 for 6th place in the ladies race.

After the race, coach Paul Pollock, commented in the groups progress:

“The Lisburn 10k was the first test for this year’s #DreamRunDublin18 group. It offered each of the athletes the chance to put on their club vests and racing shoes, to assess how far they have progressed over the past two months.

From a coaching point of view, I believe that every one of the nine who ran had either solid, or better than expected performances. The Lisburn 10k is not the main aim of this project, that is the Dublin Marathon in several months time. However, the race plays an important part in the build up process. It allows each athlete to enter their racing mindset. In addition, it hopefully helps each of the athletes trust more in the training that they have been doing.

With five of the nine athletes setting personal bests, things are heading in the right direction. Lisburn was the first of four races before the Dublin Marathon in October. The athletes are no doubt getting stronger and fitter as each week passes. For now though, a few easy recovery days are needed. Then it is time to go again.”
