Hundreds turn out to support good cause at St Joseph’s 5k 2017:

On Wednesday 21st June 2017, well over 600 athletes descended on Gransha Grounds in Derry/Londonderry for the St Joseph’s 5k road race.  All proceeds from the event went to aid the purchase of a racing wheelchair for local student Dylan Wade.

At the competitive end of the field, Northern Ireland international Conan McCaughey (Derry Track Club) sealed victory in impressive fashion.  Conan ran clear to win in 15:09 (1st place).  Behind, there was an epic battle for the runners up spot, with Noel  Logan (City of Derry AC) seeing off club mate Gary Slevin (City of Derry AC) to secure 2nd place in 15:32 – Gary followed in 15:33 for 3rd place.

In the ladies race, Marina Murphy (Derry Track Club) replicated the winning performance of her club mate Conan, topping the ladies podium with an excellent 18:29 for 1st place.  North Down AC’s North West native Sarah Lindsay crossed the line in 18:47 for 2nd place, while Martina McMullan (Foyle Valley AC) ran 19:13 (3rd place) to complete the podium.
