Emma Mitchell claims podium place as local athletes impress at Blackrock 4 mile road race!


Blackrock 4 mile Road Race 2017:

Northern Ireland’s Emma Mitchell (QUB AC / Eamonn Christie) excelled as local athletes performed well at the Blackrock 4 mile road race (Ireland) this weekend (Saturday 23rd September 2017).

Northern Ireland 10,000m and 5,000m record holder Emma came a close second to former European XC Champion Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole AC).  Fionnuala broke the tape in 21:04 (1st place), with Emma following in an excellent 21:21 for 2nd place.

In the men’s race, which was won by Mick Clohisey (Raheny Shamrock AC) in 19:08 (1st place), Paddy Hamilton (Slieve Gullion Runners) clocked 19:50 for 4th place.  East Down AC’s Barrie Atkinson claimed a top twenty spot with a 22:07 clocking for 18th place, before QUB AC’s Sinead Sweeney crossed the line in 22:45 for 4th place in the ladies race.  North Belfast Harriers’ Rebecca Wallace won the coveted junior title with a 24:26 finish.
