Eoin Lennon and Caroline Girvan win Hazelbank 5 mile Race!


Hazelbank 5 mile Race 2017:

On Sunday 4th June 2017, over 150 athletes descended on Hazelbank Park in Newtownabbey for the annual Hazelbank 5 mile Race and associated 1 mile Run, an event hosted by ‘Leg-It Events’.  The picturesque route took competitors on an out and back route between Hazelbank Park and Loughshore Park.

Scotland based NI man Eoin Lennon (Edinburgh AC) an Irish international ultra-trail runner showed his class.  Whilst on home shores for a wedding, he toed the line and cruised to victory in 26:38 (1st place). Curtis McCaw from Scrabo Striders claimed 2nd place in 29:00, with Tom Magee (Unattached) taking 3rd place in 29:31.

Caroline Girvan (Unattached) led from the outset in the ladies race and came home in 36:21 (1st place). Sherie McNamara of Ballygalget AC took 2nd place in 39:46, while Jennifer Bradley (Acorns AC) completed the top three in 40:10 (3rd place).

In other news…

On Saturday 3rd June 2017, Brian McCluskey (North East Runners) and Amy Bulman (Willowfield Harriers) were in top form at the Derrynoose 10k, winning their respective races comfortably.  Brian led the field home in 34:35 (1st place), while Amy claimed 1st place in the ladies race and 2nd place overall in 37:56.

Also in Saturday 3rd June 2017, at Stormont Estate in Belfast, Garry Morrow (Willowfield Harriers) won the Fields of Life 10k in 36:29 (1st place).  Joanne Foster (East Down AC) secured top honours in the ladies race in 44:15 (1st place); this was enough to see Joanne take 5th place overall.
