Festive Miles for County Antrim Harriers

County Antrim Harriers used the Christmas holidays to eat, rest … and race!  First the Club was out in force at the pre-Christmas Hazelbank 5 mile Santa Run; then on Boxing Day, where despite torrential rain and stormy weather, Natasha Henderson impressed at the Greencastle 5 miler (flying round in 34:45), while Margaret Beattie was in action at the CIYMS Charity 5k for the Children’s Hospice; and finally twelve Harriers took part in the infamous Castlewellan Christmas Cracker on Saturday (28th), where runners race in pairs over a tough 8.6 mile multi-terrain route and have to cross the finish line together.  The sun shone but the earlier rain made the ground soft; however, the six pairs (some in great costumes), made short work of the mud, hills, brambles, bigger hills and the odd bog!

Crackin’ performances were put in by Simon McDowell & Nigel McGookin; Sean Pagel & Claire Oliphant; Sarah Kinnear & Mandy Yau-Wilson; David Hamill & Patricia Hamill; Alexandra McLaughlin & Georgina Letson; and Karen Haddock & Shelley White.

Well done also to Nichole Macy on completing the EAMS Half Marathon on New Years Eve.

On the ParkRun scene, Neville Anderson, Caroline Ashe, and Hayley Lowry all recently celebrated their 100th ParkRuns at Sixmilewater, Valley and Antrim respectively, with cake and Club members.
