Mallusk Harriers 5 mile Road Race 2017:

On Friday 11th August 2017, well over three hundred runners turned out for the well-organised Mallusk 5 mile road race, hosted by Mallusk Harriers.

At the head of the pack, absolutely nothing could split the top two and the final podium place was decided by just one second.  In windy conditions, Finn Johnson (Hercules Wimbledon AC) and Dennis Scott (North Down AC) battled it out – Finn led off the final sharp bend, but a fast finish from Dennis made it impossible for officials to split the pair; both were declared as joint winners in 28:01 (1st place).  Then, to add to the excitement, North Belfast Harriers’ Marc Jennings just about edged out Willowfield Harriers man Garry Morrow for 3rd place in 28:49 – Garry clocked 28:50 for 4th place.

In the ladies race, experienced athlete Karen Wilton (Unattached) showed her class to win in 32:22 (1st place).  Ballymena Runners’ Paula Worthington ran well to claim 2nd place in 33:12, before Sarah-Jane McFadden (North Belfast Harriers) completed the top three in 33:33 (3rd place).

Top 3 Men:  Joint 1st Dennis Scott (North Down AC) – 28:01, Joint 1st Finn Johnson (Hercules Wimbledon AC) – 28:01, 3rd Marc Jennings (North Down AC) – 28:49

Top 3 Ladies:  1st Karen Wilton (Unattached) – 32:22, 2nd Paula Worthington (Ballymena Runners) – 33:12, 3rd Sarah-Jane McFadden (North Belfast Harriers) – 33:33
