Four local runners compete at World Mountain Running Championships 2018!

World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) Championships (Uphill only) 2018:

Four local athletes were amongst a strong Ireland team who were in action at the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) ‘Uphill Only’ Championships in Canillo, Andorra at the weekend (Sunday 16th September 2018).

Newcastle AC’s Zak Hanna continued his progression on the world stage as he broke into the top-50 in what was a classy field.  Zak covered the 12k course, which incorporated 1,030m of ascent, in 1:04:28, securing 47th place.  Fellow NI man Andrew Annett of North Belfast Harriers followed in 1:07:43 for 69th place.

In the ladies race, which covered the same distance and ascent, Newcastle AC’s Sinead Murtagh impressed on her international debut, claiming 61st place in 1:25:08.

Tony McCambridge (St Malachy’s AC) was in action in the Junior Men’s 7.4k race, which saw athletes negotiate a 576m ascent.  The NIMRA junior athlete crossed the line in 45:08 for 43rd place.
