Bobby Farren 5k Road Race 2017:
On Tuesday 12th September 2017, Derry Track Club welcomed athletes from all over the province (and beyond!) to their Bobby Farren Memorial 5k road race in Eglinton (County Derry/Londonderry).
In total, nearly one hundred and fifty competitors took to the start line, but it was Kenyan star Gideon Kipsang who impressed most. Gideon led the field home in a speedy 14:51, securing 1st place by just under thirty seconds. Martin Cox (Unattached) crossed the line in 15:20 for 2nd place, before Kevin O’Boyle (Unattached) clocked 16:31 for 3rd place.
Springwell Running Club’s Ciara Toner continued her good recent form with another podium spot – the talented athlete claimed the ladies title in 18:14 (1st place). Recent East Antrim Inter-Club Race winner Paula Worthington (Ballymena Runners) followed in 18:30 for 2nd place, before Glenda Whiteside (Springwell Running Club) narrowly missed an 18 minute finish time when she took 3rd place in 19:01.

Felix 5k Road Race 2017:
Also in the North West, Lifford Strabane AC hosted the Felix 5k road race. Darragh Crossan (Foyle Valley AC) claimed the men’s title in 17:12 (1st place), but in truth, the most impressive performance of the night came from the ladies winner, Claire McGuigan (Lifford Strabane AC). Claire returned to competitive action, winning the ladies race in 19:30 (1st place); this was enough to see her take 3rd place overall.
