Jack O’Hare and Catherine O’Connor win Downpatrick RGU 10k!


Downpatrick RGU 10k 2017:

On Wednesday 26th July 2017, athletes from across Northern Ireland turned out for the annual Downpatrick RGU 10k road race in County Down, an event co-hosted by East Down AC.

The co-hosts’ athletes picked up several prizes, but it was Newcastle AC’s in-form Jack O’Hare who led the field home.  Jack saw off a challenge from James Savage (East Down AC) to win in 36:40 (1st place), with James following in 36:59 (2nd place).  Ever consistent Patrick Higgins (Newcastle AC) took 3rd place in 37:37.

Northern Ireland international Catherine O’Connor (East Down AC) and club mate Niamh Kellett (East Down AC) both performed well in the ladies race, but it was Catherine who topped the podium, clocking an impressive 39:22 for 1st place.  Niamh crossed the line in 40:37 for 2nd place, while Deirdre Weatherall (East Down AC) completed a clean sweep of the podium for East Down AC when she recorded 41:15 for 3rd place.

Northern Ireland’s Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle AC) recorded 10:00.85 for 4th place in the 3,000m Steeplechase at the Karlstad GP on Tuesday 25th July 2017.  Locally, there were plent of quality track performances at North Down AC’s Open Track & Field Meeting in Bangor on Tuesday 25th July 2017 – full results are available HERE.
