Jacqueline Toal and Ian Bailey perform well at iconic mountain races!


Local athletes impress in the mountains of Italy and Norway:

This weekend saw well-known local runners Ian Bailey (Newcastle AC) and Jacqueline Toal (BARF) take on prestigious mountain races in Europe.  Ian was in action at the World Mountain Running Association (Long Distance) Championships in Italy, while Jacqueline was competing at the Skyrunner World Series ‘Tromso Skyrace’ in Norway.

In Italy, on Sunday 6th August 2017, Ian covered 32k in distance with 2,900m of ascent as part of the famous Giir di Mont Skyrace (inc WMRA Long Distance Championships), and secured a very credible 51st place in 3:59:49.  Full results for the event are available HERE.

Meanwhile, 24 hours earlier (Saturday 5th August 2017), Jacqueline took to the start line of one of the world’s most famous races, the Tromso Skyrace, an event organised by well-known athletes Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg.  The BARF lady completed the 57k route, which included a staggering 4,800m of ascent (inc the Hamperokken summit at 1,404m), in 11:57:37, securing 15th place in the ladies race.  Full results for the event are available HERE.
