Jared and Alison Perform at ‘Night of the 3000s’ – Ballydrain News

Wednesday past saw some of the regions fastest athletes come together at Mary Peters track for the North Belfast Harriers and Annadale Striders ‘Night of the 3000s’. Competitors were split into 5 different groups with Ballydrain Harriers represented by Jared Martin (MJ) in Race C and Alison Stocks (F40) in Race E.

The main attraction of the night was the world record attempt for M60 by Dave Clarke and Tommy Hughes. Both men were hoping to beat the 9:29:47 set in 2000 by the Dutch athlete Ad Heijdens. Unfortunately, the world record was not broken but Dave Clarke managed to set a new British record for M60 in a time of 9:30:42 – just one second off the world record. Tommy Hughes was close on Dave’s heels with a time of 9:32:18

The athletes from Ballydrain both achieved terrific results on the night. Jared finished 3rd in his race in an amazing time of 9:21:27, taking 14 seconds off his previous best time. Alison placed 7th overall in race E/2nd female and managed to set a new club record for 3000m by 26 seconds in a fantastic time of 10:48:50. A huge well done to both Jared and Alison.

The fastest time of the evening was set by Andrew Milligan of North Belfast Harriers with a time of 8:24:01.
