GR8 Dundrum Run 2017:
Scottish based athlete Jonathan Roebuck (MRF Running) and in-form Laura Graham (Mourne Runners) deservedly stole the headlines as nearly one thousand competitors took on Murlough AC’s GR8 Dundrum Run (Saturday 14th October 2017).
Athletes covered a scenic but challenging 8 mile multi-terrain course, consisting of road, trail, boards and sand, starting and finishing on the atmospheric Main Street in Dundrum.
Jonathan, who has enjoyed several podium performances recently, made his intentions clear from the off. He moved to the front and stamped his authority, progressively increasing his lead before breaking the tape in 46:58 (1st place), nearly one minute clear of his nearest rival. North Belfast Harriers’ Kent Swann claimed 2nd place in 47:52, before Mourne Runners man Timothy Johnston clocked 48:21 for 3rd place.
Laura was a class act in the ladies race, producing a new course record as she sealed an outstanding victory. The endurance specialist led from gun to tape to win in 48:51 – this not only secured 1st place in the ladies race, but saw Laura take 6th place overall. Cathy McCourt (Unattached) ran well to take 2nd place in 53:04, while last years winner Amanda Perry (Ballydrain Harriers) edged a close exciting battle for the final podium place. Amanda crossed the line in 54:06 for 3rd place, with Newcastle AC’s Sinead Murtagh and Unattached athlete Karen Wilton following in 54:11 (4th place) and 54:13 (5th place) respectively.
Torque Racing’s Jim Corbett secured 1st place in the wheelchair race, with Jack Agnew (Torque Racing) taking 2nd place and Andrew Greer (Torque Racing) 3rd place.
