Born 2 Run Minnowburn 10k & 5k 2017:
On Saturday 4th November 2017, local events management company Born 2 Run welcomed over 800 athletes to the opening race of their ‘Run Forest Run’ Series, the Minnowburn 10k.
The scenic route took competitors around the forest trails and paths which surround the home of Athletics Northern Ireland, the Mary Peters Track, starting and finishing on the track itself.
Pre-race favourite Kent Swann (North Belfast Harriers) lived up to expectation, breaking the tape in 36:53 (1st place). QUB AC’s Vincent McKenna crossed the line in 37:25 for 2nd place, with Colm McGarry of Belfast Running Club taking 3rd place in 38:59.
The ladies race was a fiercely contested affair, with Amy Bulman (Willowfield Harriers), Cathy McCourt (Unattached), Judith Lonnen (City of Lisburn AC) and Rachel Gibson (North Down AC) all contesting podium places. In the end, it was Amy who emerged victorious, winning in 39:22 (1st place). Cathy continued her return to full fitness with a 39:52 finish for 2nd place), while Judith crossed the line in 40:26 for 3rd place – Rachel followed in 40:51 (4th place).
In the associated 5k race, Kelly Neely (City of Lisburn AC) showed her class. Kelly won the race outright in 17:47 (1st place). Mark Harvey (Belfast Running Club) sealed victory in the men’s race, recording 18:05 for 1st place.
