Dalriada Festival 10k & 5k 2018:

On Friday 20th July 2018, over 200 athletes descended on the coastal village of Glenarm in County Antrim for the annual Dalriada Festival 10k and 5k, a popular and well organised event hosted this year by newly established Glenlough Running Club.

The event, which is part of a week long festival in the village, covers a multi-terrain course within the Glenarm Castle Grounds and surrounding streets and roads.

In the 10k race, North Belfast Harriers’ Kent Swann bettered his runners up spot from 2017, when he led the field home in 36:12 (1st place).  Stephen Nicholson (PACE Running Club) followed in 36:53 for 2nd place.

Northern Ireland international Martsje Hell (North Belfast Harriers) claimed 3rd place overall and 1st place in the ladies race in 39:54, before East Coast AC’s James Robinson completed the men’s 10k podium in 42:18 (3rd place).

Penny Lindsay (North Belfast Harriers) clocked 44:21 for 2nd place in the ladies race, while Geraldine Quigley (Ballymena Runners) sealed 3rd place in 44:56.

Iain Taggart (Ballymena Runners) showed that he is getting back to his best with a win in the 5k race.  The Ballymena man broke the tape in 17:03 (1st place), just eight seconds ahead of Joe Malone (North Belfast Harriers), who claimed his second podium finish of the week with a 17:11 for 2nd place.  David Law (Ballymena Runners) completed the top three in 17:23 (3rd place).

Ballymena Runners’ Paula Worthington won the ladies race convincingly, crossing the line in 19:45 (1st place).  Patricia Blair (Larne AC), a podium finisher at the recent Antrim Coast Road Marathon, showed her talent over 5k with a 20:30 finish for 2nd place, while triathlete Laura Wylie (Unattached) followed just over a minute later, taking 3rd place in 21:32.
