Last Thursday 20 runners signed up and ran a mid week marathon in the East Antrim Marathon Series (EAMS). This marathon nicknamed “The Fatlad Wash up Day “  was 19 loops of the Valley Park.

Ballydrain Harrier William Brown won the race in an incredible time of 3hrs 15min. This amazing running achievement from William comes after a 3hr 28min EAMS race last week and a sub 3 hour time in Dublin. Congratulations to William.

On Saturday a team of 28 Harriers faced the clarty conditions in the Malcom Cup, hosted by the Annadale Striders . This race is part of the cross country league and was held  at Sixmilewater in Ballyclare. Although the course was well sodden with squelchy patches the predicted heavy rainfall stayed away .

The 3 mile Open Ladies, Vet Ladies, Vet males race was 3 laps of Sixmilewater park.  There were 269 runners  in total and 14 female Ballydrain Harriers took part. The first female was Robyn McKee in 18.04 for Dromore Athletics. First home for Ballydrain was Alison Stocks in 46th place with an incredible time of 19.58. Second Harrier home was Amanda Perry in 20.08 and third was Emma Newell  in 23.28.

The Malcom Cup Senior men and under 20 race was 4 miles.  There were 182 runners and the winner of the race was Conall Kirk from Annadale Striders in 21.27 . Ballydrain Harrier Jared Martin crossed the line  first for the club in an amazing time of 22.33 , finishing 13th overall and gaining 2nd place in the U 20 category. Second Harrier home was Club Captain Drew Fowler in 27.24 and third was Mark Dugan in 28.00. Full results can be read on nirunning.co.uk

All running groups from the Ballydrain Harriers were well represented on Saturday and credit should be given to everyone for completing the race in such challenging conditions.
On Sunday Ballydrain Harrier Matthew Carvill travelled to Abbotstown Dublin  and competed in the All Ireland under 18  Cross Country Championships.

Matthew finished the 6km race in 73rd place  out of 105 competitors . He is now looking forward to competing in the Under 19 Championships in County Meath in 3 weeks time.
Also on Sunday, Roland Coey ran in the 10k “Mo Running“ at Stormont . This was the 10th Anniversary of a run which supports The Movember Foundation .

This charity’s aim is to stop men dying young as a result of prostrate/ testicular cancer and suicide.  Roland has also grown an impressive moustache to suit the occasion.
Ballydrain Harriers meet at the Cricket club Comber on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 715pm and new members are always welcome.
