Born 2 Run Dambusters Half Marathon / 10k & 5k 2017:
On Saturday 19th August 2017, over six hundred runners descended on picturesque Silent Valley Country Park in the heart of the Mourne Mountains for the 6th annual Dambusters Half Marathon & 10k races – there was also a 5k run. The event is hosted by local event management company Born 2 Run Events.
Current AAI National marathon Champion and Belfast Marathon winner Laura Graham (Mourne Runners) lived up to the expectation of being pre-race favourite – the Mourne Runners star not only claimed the ladies half marathon top prize, but led the field home overall. Laura, who is just returning to competitive action after her heroics at both London and Belfast Marathon’s in the Spring, looked a class act as she covered the tough course in 1:21:06 (1st place).
Larne AC’s David Noble bettered his runners up spot in the men’s race here twelve months ago when he won the men’s title in 1:21:21 (1st place). In-form Gordy Graham (Unattached) secured 2nd place in the men’s race in 1:22:06, while Ian Stevenson (Unattached) completed the men’s podium in 1:23:01 (3rd place). Ballydrain Harriers’ Amanda Perry continued her impressive run of podium finishes when she clocked 1:32:51 for 2nd place in the ladies race, while Eileen Stevenson (St Peter’s AC) crossed the line in 1:40:21 for 3rd place.
In the associated 10k race, Nenagh AC’s Gary Scully led the way in 35:02 (1st place), with Willowfield Harriers’ Garry Morrow following in 35:33 (2nd place). Jared Martin (Scrabo Striders) crossed the line in 39:09 for 3rd place.
In the ladies race, Laura Wylie (Unattached) won in an impressive 40:16 (1st place). Ever consistent Niamh O’Connell (Murlough AC) recorded 43:53 for 2nd place, while Joan McCabe (Unattached) completed the top three in 46:47 (3rd place).
Just short of one hundred athletes completed the 5k race, with Eoghan Murphy (Unattached) breaking the tape in 18:56 (1st place). Kyle Ross (Ballydrain Harriers) followed in 20:50 (2nd place), before Eamonn McCann (Murlough AC) crossed the line in 21:17 (3rd place).
Leah Mooney (St Gerard’s Dundalk) claimed 1st place in the ladies 5k in 21:27 (1st place). Lorna Chambers (Murlough AC) took the runners up spot in 22:36 (2nd place), before Patricia Brown (Newry City Runners) clocked 22:55 for 3rd place.
