Leon Reid claims top ten place at European Athletics Championships!

European Athletics Championships 2018:

Commonwealth bronze medallist Leon Reid (Menapians AC / James Hillier) claimed a top ten place in the 200m final at the European Athletics Championships last night (Thursday 9th August 2018).

The 24-year-old ran 20.37 for 7th place.  World Champion Ramil Gulyev (Turkey) ran a Championship record 19.76 (1st place) for the win, with Great Britain’s Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake taking the silver medal.

In an interview with RTE after the race, Leon said: “I felt that my bend was really good but I just didn’t have the legs to finish it off.”

He added, “I need to be in the mix, I don’t want to be finishing seventh. I know there are some guys there that i can beat but I just couldn’t today.”

The highlight of the day was a brilliant bronze medal for Leon’s Ireland team mate Thomas Barr, who took 3rd place in the 400m, running 48.31.
