Lillian O’Hanlon ran again in Dublin following on from the success of taking part in the Irish Runner 5 Mile and Irish Runner 10 Miler already this season , Lillian was back for the Frank Duffy 10 Mile race in the Phoenix Park on Saturday. Lillian had another strong run with a great time of 01:17:16 in Dublin and all the training in Slieve Gullion is paying off with great results.
SGR TAKE ON IRONMAN & NEWRY TRIATHLON….
It was another busy weekend of SGR members combining their running with swimming and biking. Brian Muckian and Martin McShane racing at Ironman Dun Laoghaire 70.3 on Sunday – a foggy 1.9km swim at dawn before a scenic 90.1km cycle around the Wicklow mountains and a seafront half marathon in beautiful sunshine before cruising down the red carpet to their finish line.

Lawrence Malone stayed local this weekend and secured a top 50 finish at Newry City Triathlon. Blue skies and sunshine blazed down on the competitors and Larry ran an outstanding 22:58 5k – no mean feat after a speedy 750m canal swim and leg sapping 20km cycle, finishing in 1hr 15:48

ARMAGH CITY RUNNING FESTIVAL…..Photo enclosed of Marathon
Well done to the team of SGR who took part in Armagh City Running Festival over the weekend. SGR Brian Evans and Tina Crawley ran at the Marathon event in great times with Brian in 17th and Tina in 18th place over all. Stephen Quinn once again finished strongly by getting on the podium with a 3rd placed finish in the Half Marathon event. In what was a very tough lapped course and on what was a very hot day well done to all our team. This looked like a great event and i’m sure we’ll see more members at it next year.

We would like to wish the best of luck to SGR Robbie Marsh has he sets off soon to take part in the CCC that takes place on Friday 30th August a unique race that is one of the most prestigious in the world. The start line at the centre of Courmayeur in Italy running to the passage of the Grand col Ferret (2537m) marks the entrance of the race in Switzerland, , before discovering after an incredible ascension the Vallons des Chezerys, a true corner of paradise with a magnificent view on the Mont-Blanc chain. It is then time that Robbie will reach the world famous arrival arch in the heart of Chamonix.
