Huge congratulations to Scrabo Strider Linda Dugan who took part in her first half Ironman triathlon on Sunday 28th which consisted of an 1800m swim, a 90km bike race and a 21km run. Lots of dedication and preparation went into this and it certainly paid off, with Linda winning first place in her age category.
On Saturday 27th the now annual Crossgar 10K road race took place. Organised by Atlas Running and Crossgar Harriers athletes follow a sometimes hilly course starting at the Monastery along country roads finishing back in the village. This event is part of the popular Novosco 10K Series.
Scrabo Striders had seven athletes at the event where Norman Mawhinney took 18th place in 41 minutes 40 seconds followed by Justin Clegg in 45:09. Deborah Wilson crossed the line in overall 70th in 52:06 followed by Gayle Malaugh in 54:49, Beverley McKee 57:48, Wendy Thompson 01:01:31 and Nikki Keery in 01:17:40. Well done all on what is a challenging course.
Earlier in the week the Lakeland Dairies Milk run took place. Part of the Baker McKenzie Super 5s Series, the 5 mile run started near the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney. Scrabo had three athletes take part with Norman Mawhinney first home for the club in 32 minutes 58 seconds, followed by David Turton in 37:35 and Liz Turton in 42:21.
Well done to two of our Junior Striders, Ethan Lappin and Archie Tate who took part in the U12 Lisburn City Aquathon also on Sunday It was a great experience for the boys, who completed a 200m swim and a 2km run.
At Parkrun Curtis McCaw took first place in Comber with brilliant time of 18 minutes 17 seconds, congratulations. Lots of new personal best (PB) times for Striders this week namely Inge Ferguson and Naomi Davidson at Comber, George Cash, Steven Craythorne and Kim Cochrane at Victoria Park in east Belfast.
At Colin Glen PB’s were recorded by Amanda Piesse, Robin Adams and Sheena Crone, at Ward Park Bangor for Gordon McEwan and in Enniskillen for Tim McEwan. Parkrun tourism seems to be popular again with sixteen Scrabo Striders travelling to try out new Parkrun courses. Keep it up.
