Local clubs dominate AAI National League (Division 1) Final!

LOCAL CLUBS DOMINATE NATIONAL LEAGUE (DIVISION 1) FINAL (report compiled for use by Athletics NI)

Northern Ireland & Ulster athletes dominated the Division 1 competition at this weekend’s AAI National League Final in Tullamore, Ireland (Sunday 19th August 2018).

The County Monaghan Team (1st place) won the ladies title, with City of Derry AC and City of Lisburn AC securing 2nd place and 3rd place respectively.

In a close ladies competition, County Monaghan won with 101 points and just one point split Northern Ireland clubs, City of Derry and City of Lisburn – the Spartans notched 89 points to finish ahead of the Lisburn club, who finished on 88 points.  Lagan Valley AC (85 points) took 5th place.

Emma McCay and Amy Jackson impressed most for City of Derry AC, taking some big points for the Spartans, including a win for Emma in the 100m hurdles (15.67).  Meanwhile, Lauren Roy’s excellent runs over 100m (11.98) and 200m (24.52), backed up by Anna McCauley’s 1.70m in the High Jump helped City of Lisburn AC on their way.

In the Men’s Division 1 competition, wins for Adam Hill (110m hurdles – 16.32), Shane Martin (Pole Vault – 4.40m) and Jonny Hill (Long Jump – 6.47m) helped City of Lisburn AC to 5th place on 93 points.  County Kerry won with 119 points (1st place).

Maximum points in the 3,000m Walk from Brian O’Donnell (14:07.11) pushed Finn Valley AC’s towards a 6th place finish in the highly competitive Premier Men’s League.
