Local runners compete at XIII Meeting Iberoamericano de Atletismo in Spain!


XIII Meeting Iberoamericano de Atletismo (Spain):
Local athletes Ben Reynolds (North Down AC / Tom Reynolds), Adam Kirk-Smith (Woodford Green Essex / Tomaz Plibersek) and Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle AC / Richard Rodgers)  were in action at last nights XIII Meeting Iberoamericano de Atletismo in Huelva, Spain (Wednesday 14th June 2017).

Ben was in action in his favourite 110m hurdles event and recorded a 13.92 for the distance, an excellent effort in the -1.9m/s wind.  This was enough to see Ben take 4th place in the event won by Olympic silver medallist Orlando Ortego (Spain) in 13.38 (1st place).

Meanwhile, Adam took on the 3,000m Steeplechase and clocked 8:47.06 for 19th place in the staked field. Yemane Hailesilassie of Eritrea took 1st place in 8:17.04.

Newcastle AC athlete Kerry lined up in the ladies 3,000m Steeplechase and continued her return from a calf injury with a 10:06.86 finish for 11th place. The race was won by Fadwa Sidi Madane (Marruecos) in 9:31.24 (1st place).

Spanish athlete Claudia Jalon, who is coached by Mark Kirk, was also competing at the event – Claudia recorded an impressive 1500m personal best of 4:23.49.
