Jimmy’s 10k 2018:
Mark McKinstry (North Belfast Harriers) and Catherine O’Connor (East Down AC) proved to be popular winners as nearly one thousand athletes took on the re-scheduled Jimmy’s 10k road race (Sunday 25th March 2018).
The East Down AC hosted event is part of the ongoing Novosco 10k Grand Prix 2018.
Northern Ireland international Mark looked a class act in the men’s race as he led the field home in 31:45 (1st place). Neill Weir (Willowfield Harriers), a podium finisher at the Larne Half Marathon yesterday, clocked an impressive 32:53 for 2nd place, before Gerard Heaney (Club Unknown) completed the top three in 32:58 (3rd place).
There was a home town win in the ladies race, with Catherine breaking the tape in 38:16 (1st place). Behind, there was a close battle for the runners up spot, with Tracey Atkinson (Albertville Harriers) edging out Susan Smyth (Dromore AC). Tracey crossed the line in 39:40 (2nd place), with Susan, another athlete who impressed in Larne yesterday, recording 39:44 for 3rd place.
