Mark McKinstry and Gladys Ganiel O’Neill win Fairhill 5 mile Road Race!

Fairhill 5 mile Road Race 2018:

North Belfast Harriers pair Mark McKinstry and Gladys Ganiel O’Neill ran out winners as over 400 athletes took on the annual Fairhill 5 mile road race in Ballymena (Wednesday 6th June 2018).

The popular and well-organised event, which covered a fast course, was hosted by Ballymena Runners.

Despite the best efforts of in-form Foyle Valley AC athlete Keith Shiels, it was Mark McKinstry who led the way in the men’s race.  Nothing separated the pair at half way, but Mark edged clear in the second half to win in 25:14 (1st place).  Keith followed in 25:39 for 2nd place, before Matthew Hewitt (East Antrim Harriers) won a close battle for 3rd place in 27:39.

In the ladies race, Gladys Ganiel O’Neill produced a dominant performance to win and finish in the top ten overall. The European Championships bound athlete clocked an impressive 28:52 for 1st place in the ladies race and 8th place overall.  The host club’s Kerry Bamber and Paula Worthington secured 2nd place and 3rd place respectively, with Kerry crossing the line in 30:49 (2nd place) and Paula following in 31:55 (3rd place).
