Mark Smith and Liz Dawson excel as 2,000 athletes take on Run in the Dark 2018!

Run in the Dark 2018:

Mark Smith and Liz Dawson emerged victorious from the premier 10k event as over 2,000 competitors turned out for the annual Run in the Dark 10k and 5k at Stormont Estate in Belfast last night (Wednesday 14th November 2018).

In the men’s race, Mallusk Harriers athlete Mark enjoyed a comfortable win, breaking the tape in 36:32 (1st place), an impressive time for the tough two lap route.   Just ten seconds split the remaining podium placing athletes with Bryn Jones and Andrew Wright running 37:13 (2nd place) and 37:23 (3rd place) respectively.

The ladies 10k was a much closer affair, with Liz Dawson edging out Laura Jones to win by fourteen seconds.  Liz crossed the line in 43:41 (1st place), with Laura following in 43:55 (2nd place).  Mary Slocum continued her recent good form with another podium place, completing the top three in 44:34 (3rd place).

In the associated 5k event, North Down AC’s John Ewing won the men’s race in 18:01 (1st place), while Ruth Robinson claimed the ladies top prize in 20:10 (1st place).
