Great Rossa Run Half Marathon / 10k and 5k 2017:
On Sunday 9th July 2017, nearly eight hundred athletes took on the Great Rossa Run Half Marathon, 10k and 5k races. The well organised event, hosted by Ardboe O’Donovan Rossa GAC in association with St Patrick’s PS, Mullinahoe, takes place in Ardboe, County Tyrone.
In the 13.1 mile race, Sperrin Harriers’ Pierce McCullagh continued his recent good form with a relatively comfortable win. Pierce broke the tape in 1:15:12 for 1st place. St Peter’s AC athlete Gillian McCrory led the ladies half marathon home in 1:36:32 (1st place).
The continually improving Vincent McAlister sealed victory in the 10k race, crossing the line in 33:47 (1st place). Commonwealth Games marathoner Gladys Ganiel O’Neill (North Belfast Harriers) was a class act in the ladies race, winning in 36:28 (1st place).
There was an Acorns AC double in the 5k, with Aaron Meharg winning the men’s race and Lisa Simpson taking top honours in the ladies event. Aaron recorded 16:36 for 1st place, while Lisa ran 21:03 (1st place).

Elswhere on the roads this weekend, Newcastle AC’s David Simpson and Ballydrain Harriers’ Amanda Perry topped the podium as over two hundred athletes took on the Greyabbey 10k road race. David took 1st place in 33:54, while Ameanda won in 40:08 (1st place). Full results for the event are available HERE.
