Meet the contributors… Rebecca McNamara

Rebecca McNamara is a chartered physiotherapist at Pure Physio Clinic and has come board as one of our contributors in NiRunning.

I have known Rebecca for a number of years through Scrabo Striders. With a 3 month baby at home she refers to herself as a ‘lapsed jogger’ but her trainers are ready for her local Couch to 5K when she gets the green light.

Rebecca graduated from Oxford Brookes University with BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy and gained initial clinical experience through the NHS in Oxford before returning to Northern Ireland. For the next 5 years she worked in musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation in a clinic in Belfast.

Rebecca joined the team at Pure Physio in 2015 and immediately loved it’s location and having access to the lovely facilities at La Mon Hotel and Country Club for the rehabilitation needs of her patients. From here she has lead Pilates classes and uses the swimming pool for Hydrotherapy physiotherapy.

Rebecca has been commited to undertaking extensive post graduate training and as such she specialises in: the management of spinal dysfunction (including nerve pain and headaches); Musculoskeletal and Sports injuries; Hydrotherapy; Pilates; and Women’s Health (ante natal and post natal management). She has also started a Masters in ‘Advanced Physiotherapy’ part-time through the University of Ulster.

Being married to an endurance ultra-runner and running coach, Rebecca’s scope in treating running injuries is wide. Ever the believer in ‘Prevention is better than cure’ she has enjoyed leading Pilates classes specifically for runners. Beyond that she swims 3-5 times a week and has just loved getting out walking with her baby. Not surprisingly the McNamara’s have a running buggy waiting their daughter’s 6 month birthday!

Rebecca is a chartered physiotherapist and registered with HCPC. She is also a memeber of POGP and ATACP. She is registered with all major insurance companies.
