Megan Marrs competes in Diamond League as local stars impress on the track…

Northern Ireland’s Megan Marrs (City of Lisburn AC) has again impressed against high calibre opposition – this time at the British Athletics Anniversary Games in London.

Closer to home, local stars from Northern Ireland and Ulster picked up medals at the Irish Life AAI National Age Group Championships in Tullamore, Ireland.  There were also impressive performances by local athletes in Bangor.

British Athletics Anniversary Games:

Representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the British Athletics Anniversary Games, a Diamond League event, Megan Marrs clocked 13.37 (-0.5) for 7th place in a star-studded 110m hurdles event at the London Stadium (Saturday 21st July 2018).

This was a mere 0.05 seconds outside the Loughborough based athletes personal best of 13.32, which she set at the Belfast International last month.

Irish Life AAI National Juvenile Track & Field Championships:

In Tullamore (Ireland), Dylan McBride (Willowfield Harriers) and Lucy McGlynn (Tir Chonaill AC) picked up gold medals as athletes from Northern Ireland and Ulster collected an impressive medal haul at the Irish Life AAI National Juvenile Track & Field Championships (Sunday 22nd July 2018).

Dylan McBride won the Under 16 1500m in 4:15.44, with fellow NI athlete Sean M McGinley (Olympian YC) claiming 3rd place in the same event in 4:18.60.

Meanwhile, in the Under 15 250m hurdles, Lucy McGlynn struck gold after crossing the line in 36.45. Club mate Rachel Gallagher picked up the bronze medal after running 37.37 for 3rd place.

Oisin McCorry (Annalee AC), Nathan Fitzpatrick (City of Derry AC), Gearoid Lynch (Shercock AC) and James Wright (Ballymena & Antrim AC) all collected silver medals on what was an excellent day of competition.

There were also bronze medals for Lauren Roy (City of Lisburn AC), Eimear Kelly (City of Derry AC), Katie McCleery (City of Lisburn AC), Cara Laverty (City of Derry AC), Chris Kearns (Finn Valley AC) and Aine Wilkinson (Finn Valley AC).

Team Trophy & 4 x 400m Relay:

City of Lisburn AC topped the male and female team standings at this weekend’s Team Trophy event in Bangor (Saturday 21st July 2018).

In the men’s competition, the Lisburn club won with 33 points from North Down AC and Lagan Valley AC respectively.  In the ladies table, it was North Down AC who cam closest to winners City of Lisburn AC, with Derry Track Club completing the top three.

In the associated 4 x 400m Relay Championships, City of Lisburn AC celebrated further success with a wen in the men’s race, recording 3:45.16 for the win.  In the ladies race, North Down AC won in 4:23.95.
