Megan Marrs secures British Athletics 60m hurdles title!

Local star secures gold at prestigious British Athletics Indoor Championships 2018:

City of Lisburn AC star Megan Marrs (Jerzy Maciukiewicz) continued her outstanding recent form with a significant performance at the British Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England (Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February 2018).

Competing against top quality opposition in the 60m hurdles, Megan ran 8.35 in the heats before producing a stunning final performance of 8.16 (1st place).  This was a personal best and enough to see the fast improving star claim the British title and the associated gold medal – it also took Megan to within 0.02 of the IAAF World Indoor Championships standard.

Over the last number of weeks, Megan has taken a massive 0.44 off her 60m hurdles personal best and continues to move towards that IAAF World Indoor Championships standard of 8.14.

Speaking to British Athletics after the event, Megan said: “I’m really, really happy, I can’t believe it!

It’s the one I’ve always grown up watching and really admired the people.  So, now to be able to say I’ve won these Championships – a National title – you can’t really beat it, can you!”

Fellow Northern Ireland athletes Mollie Courtney (Cheltenham AC / David Warner) and Naomi Morgan (City of Derry AC / Tom Reynolds) were also in action in the same 60m hurdles competition.

Reigning Champion Mollie ran 8.50 for 7th place in the final, while Spartan athlete Naomi recorded 9.11 in the heats.

Long Jumper Adam McMullen (Crusaders AC / Alan Kennedy) was also competing in Birmingham, where he jumped to 7.75m for 2nd place in the Long Jump.  Adam then went on to break the Northern Ireland Long Jump record in Abbotstown (see separate report HERE).
