The  Monaghan Phoenix Marathon Festival  that took place on Saturday and Sunday seen some outstanding running from SGR Barry McCarroll , Ronan Halpenny and Eamon Murphy. On Saturday day one of the back to back marathons saw Barry McCarroll  run an amazing time of  03:04:42 to take 3rd place and this was not the only podium finish of the day as Ronan Halpenny stormed home in the 10k event in an outstanding  time of 00:41:49 to take a 2nd place finish. In what was a memorable day for the Slieve Gullion Runners and  it did not stop there as Eamon Murphy took 6th Place in the Marathon on his 75th Marathon in Monaghan. A day and weekend to remember for all our SGR ,which continued  on the second back to back marathon with  Barry McCarroll going  one better from Saturdays race by taking a second podium finish in 2 days with a  2nd place finish in the  Marathon in another amazing time of 03:08:26. A weekend to remember for all the team that went to Monaghan and well done to them all.

BERLIN MARATHON ……

 Well done to SGR Kevin McSherry  who represented the club at this years Berlin Marathon in what was a very wet day with 20 miles of the race having heavy rain.  Kevin ran an  outstanding  04:28:43 time at the event  and great to have a runner once again take on this great world marathon major.

A large SGR team took part in both the 10k and 5k events at the John Carroll Killeavy Klassic on Sunday that saw SGR Joe McKevitt  take another podium for the club this weekend with a first placed finish in the  10k with a great time of  00:37:54. This was the clubs 4th podium finish of the weekend. The Muckian family was out in force at Killeavy in the 5k event with young Joshua finishing in 5th Place with Dad Brian, brother James and his sister Freya all running and great to see the bright future of running enjoying the event. A great team effort by all the runners in Killeavy and well done to new SGR member Larry Murphy who finished in 8th place in the 10k.

SGR Lawrence Malone took part in the Bangor 10K on Saturday and after taking on some Parkuns in recent weeks they are paying off as Lawrence set a great time of 00:46:30 in the 10k event and marking another great event for Lawrence.

TWICKENHAM PARKRUN …..

Last Saturday saw SGR Lawrence Malone take on the Crane Park Parkrun in Twickenham , London  in  a great time of 00:22.12 .Parkruns are a great platform for runners to take advantage of and Lawrence is getting his rewards. :22.12
