Neill Weir and Sarah Lindsay secure victory at Albertville 4 mile Road Race!

Albertville Harriers 4 mile Road Race 2017:

On Friday 2nd June 2017, a record number of close to three hundred athletes descended on Duncrue Industrial Estate in Belfast for the annual Albertville 4 mile Road Race, an event hosted by Albertville Harriers.

The flat and fast course provided the perfect opportunity for an excellent race and the athletes duly delivered, with a closely contested battle for top honours.  Neill Weir (Willowfield Harriers), Aaron Meharg (Acorns AC), Gareth Lyons (Ballydrain Harriers), Chris Moren (Willowfield Harriers), Barrie Atkinson (East Down AC) and Joe Malone (Unattached) were all in the mix, but in the end, it was Neill Weir who emerged victorious.

Neill clocked 21:31 for 1st place, just holding off the ever improving Gareth Lyons who took 2nd place in 21:32. Aaron Meharg then completed the top three in 21:45 (3rd place).

The ladies race wasn’t just as close, but that took nothing away from a quality performance by Sarah Lindsay (North Down AC).  Exactly seven days after winning the Runher 5k, the North Down AC athlete again topped the podium, leading the ladies home in 25:16 (1st place).  Debbie Matchett (Ballydrain Harriers) crossed the line in 25:46 for 2nd place, while Siobhan Brown (Tafelta AC) covered the distance in 26:25 (3rd place).
