NI Record for McGlynn at World Half Marathon

Letterkenny AC’s Ann Marie McGlynn continued her amazing form of late, breaking another NI record at this weekend’s World Half Marathon Championships in Poland.

McGlynn took full advantage of the decent weather conditions to finish in 42nd place in a time of 71:40, taking 20 seconds off her own NI Half Marathon Record, set in Barcelona in February 2019.

This marks a fantastic 12 month period for Ann Marie, beginning in Dublin last year with a new NI Marathon record of 2:32.54, then setting a stylish 10k time of 32:43 at the Championchip Ireland Running series in July at Down Royal, proving that the recent restrictions had not slowed her down. Concentrating on the World Athletics event in Poland has clearly paid off for McGlynn, who finished ahead of her British counterparts, with Samantha Harrison in 47th, Becky Briggs in 64th and Clara Evans in 65th. Ann Marie’s time bodes well for an attempt at the Olympic Marathon qualifying standard of 2:29:30.

Joining Ann Marie, was St Malachy AC’s Kevin Seaward, who produced a PB performance to finish in 58th place in a time of 62:58, a total of 7 seconds fastest than his previous PB set at the P & O Antrim Coast Half Marathon where he finished in 5th place.

Kevin has already achieved the qualifying time for the Tokyo Olympic marathon, with his time of 2:10:08 in Seville in February this year. Stephen Scullion and Paul Pollock have also run faster than the qualifying mark of 2:11:30.
