Home International Mountain Running Championships 2017:
The Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association (NIMRA) have named the male and female teams for the upcoming British Athletics Home International Mountain Running Championships, which will take place in Sedbergh, Cumbria (England) on Sunday 18th June 2017.
The event will take place on the Southern Howgill Fells above Sedbergh and incorporates the British Athletics World Mountain Running Championships trials, which will mean a highly competitive field. Teams have been invited from Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales and only those selected by their national federation will be eligible for the purposes of scoring and prizes.
Teams for both the women’s and men’s events comprise a maximum of six athletes. Up to four of the athletes may be seniors with the remainder of the team to be made up of under 23 athletes.
The Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s Race will cover 6.3km in distance and incorporate 433m ascent/descent, while the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Race will cover 12.6km in distance and 866m ascent/descent.
The Northern Ireland teams have now been selected and are as follows:
Men: David Hicks (Newcastle AC) – Team Captain, Ryan Stewart (Shettleston Harriers), Timothy Johnston (Mourne Runners), Shane Donnelly (Acorns AC) and Under 23 athlete Zak Hanna (Newcastle AC). Reserve: Alex Brennan (Ballymena Runners).
Ladies: Gillian Wasson (Ballymena Runners) – Team Captain, Moire O’Sullivan (Unattached), Ciara Largy (Unattached) and Paulette Thomson (Newcastle AC). Reserve: Ruth Aiken (Ballymena Runners).
